Perplexity had used Getty’s photos without a public agreement in place At the time, some media wondered if it was a case of copyright abuse.

The new collaboration may serve to address these concerns by providing clear permission for the use of images and offering a more structured approach.

Alongside the announcement, Perplexity stated that Images appearing in their search results will now include proper credit and links to the original image sources. This is intended to make the origins of images transparent for users and respect the rights of content creators.

Getty’s vice president of strategic development, Nick Unsworth, said the agreement supports the idea that proper consent and attribution will improve AI products.

Perplexity’s head of content partnerships, Jessica Chan, said clarity and correct credit are essential when providing information through AI. He added that his goal is to help people find visual answers while also showing where those visuals come from.
