US President Donald Trump signed a bill on Wednesday that formally ended the longest government shutdown in American history.
Trump signed the long-awaited funding bill late Wednesday night, a whopping 43 days after the federal government shutdown following the failure of Republicans and Democrats to agree on key spending provisions.
According to National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, about 60,000 private sector employees lost his job because of the closing.
“Today we are sending a clear message that we will never give in to extortion,” Trump said.
The reopening of the US government marks a victory for most Polymarket punters on Monday who expected the shutdown to end between November 12 and November 15.
The deal came after a minority of Democrats helped advance a deal this past Sunday that would see the US government funded until January in exchange for Republicans accepting a vote in mid-December to extend health tax credits.
However, not all Democratic lawmakers were thrilled with the deal, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) calling the bill a “mistake.”
“I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable,” Warren said. “We are in a health emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits will cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.”
The bill is widely seen as a plus from digital asset policy proponentshowever, as the pressure grows on the legislators to pass clear crypto frameworks.
On Monday, Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) unveiled their own. crypto market structure discussion outline.
“As Congress works to expand the authority for the commission to oversee the trading of digital assets that are commodities, it is essential that we also ensure that it has the tools, personnel and resources necessary to carry out this new mission, along with its current responsibilities.” Boozman said.
