Co-creator of ZKsync, Alex Gluchowski, proposed a new direction for the platform’s governance token.
He argued that the token should it serves a larger purpose by directly supporting the network economyinstead of acting as a coordination tool.
In a posted on the ZKsync forum on November 4thGluchowski explained that the token worked well during the first phase of the project, when the system was still under development.

However, as ZKsync expanded into a network of connected zero-knowledge chains, he suggested that the token should help generate value and encourage wider adoption.
He emphasized the importance of creating a system in which the token actively participates in maintaining and improving the network. This included funding updates, security improvements and support for common tools and services.
Part of the proposal is introducing new ways for the token to gain value. On the network, the token could collect fees from services such as settlement and messaging. Outside of the network, the value could come from licensing software that is used by businesses.
The value gathered from these sources would be handled by a system controlled by governance. This system will decide how to allocate the funds, whether to buy tokens on the market, reward users who stake tokens, or reduce the supply through token burns.
