10 terrific Nintendo Switch games from 2024 to check out

This holiday season is the swan song for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo told us as much when it announced a long-awaited Switch successor would be announced by April 2025. But Nintendo, fortunately, has not received a case of seniority since it seems to graduate in a sequence of Switch, since 2024 had a litany of excellent titles that came to the console of almost eight years. So let’s take a look back at some of our favorite games on the Switch for 2024. One of the great things about the Switch titles on offer this year is that they should all be working on the Switch sequel – since Nintendo has confirmed that its next generation will be backwards compatible. (And hopefully any game performance issues on the current Switch will be resolved when playing on the next model, if we’re so lucky.)

We all have to be patient while we continue to wait for the successor of the Switch, but these games are undoubtedly worth playing during the last months of your current Nintendo console in the fire.

I know there are a lot of us on staff for that Balatru it was our personal game of the year, and I don’t think either of us are big poker players or fans. That’s the beauty of this indie roguelike; You don’t have to be a card game stan or know a thing about poker to enjoy its unique dopamine rush. From the music and sound effects to the lo-fi visuals, Balatru hit all the right notes to sink into their hooks and lock you in. You’ll probably find yourself muttering “just one more run” several times. Next thing you know, it’s 3 AM and the baby will be up in a few hours – or maybe that last part is just me.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Princess Zelda finally has her own game, which allows you to play as her full time in a Legend of the actual Zelda. Is it it may not be perfect in its executionbut it’s a worthwhile adventure where Zelda solves puzzles and defeats baddies by summoning previously defeated enemies and everyday objects.

There is an air of mystery Good animal that can it attracts you o right it confuses you. If you’re the type that loves to forgo any guidance and figure everything out on your own, there’s a good chance you’ll like this pixelated 2D platformer. It gets mixed up a bit Mario-like jumping puzzle with a Metroidvania feel of open exploration and adventure – complete with some mysterious vibes.

1000x Resist takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is driven under the arrival of an alien race. You play Watcher, one of many clones of a girl who is somehow immune to the mass disease brought by the alien Occupants. And of course, everything is not what it seems. It’s definitely capital-S, capital-F sci-fi.

Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood

It’s been another great year for Mario RPGs. But after the remake of Super Mario RPG and the remaster of Paper Mario: The Gate of a Thousand Years, Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood shows us that our favorite plumbing duo can still keep things cool in the role space. Brotherhood it has a cheerful and playful story, fun turn-based combat, and an adorable art style. You can sum up how fascinating this game is with a singular game mechanic and two words: Luigi Logic.

Get ready to feel feelings. It’s snowing is the latest indie from the developer of Greyand in addition to being a beautiful work of visual art, it tells a story about caring for a baby fox that is sure to make some people cry (especially if you’re a parent).

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

“I want to take you for a run.” And what a run this classic fighting game collection is, encapsulating the various Marvel and Capcom crossover 2D fighters and also including The Punisher beat-’em-up that started the long collaboration. This compilation of the best is worth the price of admission just to finally get it Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on modern consoles, complete with online play.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown it was the first gem of 2024, coming out in January. Fast forward to October, and Ubisoft unfortunately disbanded its development team. Ma The lost crown remains an incredible side-scrolling Metroidvania/Soulslike mash-up with challenging (but fun as hell) combat and platforming. And while the game world is quite large, with a lot to explore, the game respects the player’s time by offering useful tools in the game – like pinning screenshots to the map.

Ground Pepper is a unique 2D platformer that allows you to traverse its colorful world full of sprites with a drill, diving dolphins on land and from land. The game’s key mechanic feels fast-paced and extremely rewarding as you expertly traverse the world’s obstacles through the violent path of your drilling and fallen enemies. Then up the ante later by adding a grappling hook. Always be my beating heart. (No, really, the fast action makes my heart rate go up sometimes – in a fun way, not a worrying way.)

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

If you’ve ever enjoyed an escape room, you’re likely to dig it Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Its black, white and red art style and eerie setting fill the game with a sense of mystery, and its challenging puzzles are sure to tickle your brain. Just be prepared to take notes, so you don’t feel overwhelmed when the game makes you think outside the box – or do basic math.
