Microsoft he boldly suggested his Edge The browser has been central to the AI experience for users around the world over the past 12 months.
In a blog placethe company’s general manager for product management and growth in Microsoft Edge, Research and Mobile, Roger Capriotti, revealed that users will access Copilot in the Edge. navigator window to engage in more than 10 billion AI generative chats by 2024.
Edge has also, apparently, proven instrumental in other areas, such as improving accessibility with integrated translation and supporting the world of e-commerce.

About 38 trillion characters will be translated using Edge’s automatic translation feature in 2024, with integrated shopping features saving shoppers $400 a year on average. Additionally, 800 million articles and stories have been consumed on MSN, with 46 million messages and files shared using Drop.
Capriotti also drew attention to browser performance improvements, quantifying their usefulness by claiming seven trillion megabytes of PC memory were saved by using sleep tabs.
The security features also got a major mention for the role in preventing more than 1.4 billion phishing, malware and scam attacks in Edge and more than 1.8 trillion trackers in the Edge mobile app.
However, despite all this success, Edge still lags behind in the global browser market. Google Chrome accounts for two in three (67%) desktop browser sessions (via December 2024 Statcounter figures), with Edge in a very distant second place (13%). Across all platforms, including smartphones and tablets, Edge resides in third place with a small market share of 5%, according to Safari (17%).
The update also notes Bing has reached more than 140 million daily active users, but is still lagging behind the competition. Googlewith a market share of 90%, it leads the way, with Bing taking only a 4% slice.
In the future, Microsoft hopes to inject artificial intelligence into its browser to improve its usefulness could be a way to help boost adoption.
