This year’s launch iOS 18 brought a host of new features and functions to millions of iPhones, and a new leak suggests that the same phones that can run iOS 18 will also be eligible for an update to iOS 19.
As usual reliable iPhoneSoft (via 9 to 5 Mac), mobile phones up to the iPhone XS and iPhone XRlaunched in 2018, you will be able to get the next year’s software update. iOS 18, meanwhile, dropped support for the iPhone X and the iPhone 8which both launched in 2017.
There is a caveat though: not all of the new iOS 19 features will be available on all iPhones. This is something we are already used to of course, because recent mobile phones have the necessary processing power to handle it Apple Intelligencewhile others do not.
So far we have not heard too much about the updates that iOS 19 will bring with it, although apparently. Apple is planning a ChatGPT– style update for Siri. At the moment of course, you can use ChatGPT in Siri for more advanced AI conversations.
However, the same report says that an iPad model will be left behind when iPadOS 19 is released. Apparently the iPad 7th-gen entry-levelwhich was launched in 2019 and works on a Apple A10 chip, will not be compatible.
The new minimum requirement for iPadOS 19 is said to be an A12 chip, which means that every other iPad must receive the software update. We can expect a similar set of new features to iOS 19, with a few tweaks and extras to account for the tablet form factor.
If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, then the first we’ll officially hear about iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 will be on WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2025, likely to happen sometime in June. After that, we should have a beta testing period, before a full public release in September 2025.
New software updates will surely run on the iPhone 17 series, plus any new iPads that Apple decides to bring out this year. We can well get the 11th generation iPad before 2025 is out, and also a new one 8th generation iPad Pro.
