As a ban of the United States, the creators are actively searching for TikTok alternatives that can help you build an audience and surface your content.
YouTube shorts and Instagram Reels are the two biggest formats that attract creators. But smaller applications also want it. Ten-year-old thriller is one such app. The video app gained traction during the first threat of a TikTok ban in 2020 by establishing a content house where creators lived in exchange for posting on the app, advertising ads and working with prominent creators such as Griff Johnson, Noah Beck and Josh Richards. .
But Thriller largely never caught on with creators and advertisers. Parent company Triller Group went public in October through a reverse merger with AGBA Group Holding Limited.
Now, the platform is back for another attempt to train the creators of TikTok. The company has developed a tool to help TikTok creators transfer their videos to the platform before a bigger refresh expected for the first quarter of this year. Triller also has tools to help creators find brand deals and design standalone apps.
ADWEEK spoke with Triller’s new CEO, Sean Kim, about his plans to recruit TikTokers to the platform, form relationships with brands and influence agencies, and give creators ownership of their content.
Triller is hoping for a hit from the TikTok ban
Kim joined Triller in November and was previously head of product for TikTok. Kim has also worked in product and marketing roles at creative firm Kajabi and Amazon.
He said that this experience helps Triller to identify the pain points that the creators face. While social platforms are effective in helping people discover creators, they see opportunities to help creators with monetization efforts such as ads and other types of revenue.
“The new mission statement we have is to become the most creator-centric social platform in the world by offering discovery, monetization and ownership,” Kim said.
The other pain point that Triller aims to address is ownership. Many TikTok creators with a large audience are worried about maintaining their community if the app is banned in the United States “No one gives you control or ownership of your fan contacts, which is what everyone is afraid of now said Kim.
Triller plans to offer creators full-service teams to save and move their content. Triller has also set up a microsite called savemytiktoks.com that allows creators to back up their videos and upload them to the app for free.
