Hertz is asking EV renters if they want to keep it, permanently

Hertz recently contacted several electric vehicle lessors with attractive low-cost offers for cars like Teslas, offering them the option to buy their leased EVs instead of returning them. A 2023 Model 3 rental shared on Reddit that were offered a price of $17,913, which is similar to the deal they are currently showing on the Hertz Car Sales website. However, the rental they were in had about 30,000 miles on it – less than the other current listings.

Another renter was offered a 2023 Chevy Bolt for $18,442, while a Polestar 2 renter says he saw a purchase price of $28,500. Used cars come with a 12-month limited warranty, 12,000 powertrain miles and a 7-day take-back offer.

Asked by The Virgin whether it was a special offer for EVs or a typical Hertz used car offer, cCommunications director Jamie Line confirmed the strategy is not new, saying: By connecting our rental customers who opt in to our emails to our sales channels, we are not only raising awareness of the fact that we sell cars, but also offering a unique opportunity to someone who may be in the market for the same car that they have rent.”
