A drone punched a hole into an LA firefighting plane

Do not fly your drone into an active forest fire. While filming the destruction may be tempting, it could prevent firefighters from doing their jobs. This is exactly what happened in Los Angeles on January 9 when a drone collided with a firefighting plane “Super Scooper”, The LA Times reports.

It comes as LA grapples with the worst wildfire in history, which has burned thousands of homes and killed thousands at least 10. A drone crash forced the aircraft to abort its mission and land elsewhere for repairs. Photos of the plane show a noticeable hole in one of its wings:

Police are now trying to figure out who was flying the drone, the LA Times reported, and the incident is under investigation by the FAA. The LA Fire Department warned that operating a drone while fighting a fire is punishable by up to 12 months in jail or a $75,000 fine.
