Apple CEO Tim Cook says tariffs to add $900M in costs in Q3, but future uncertain

The Apple Tim Cook Executive Director offered the first comments from the company’s influence on President Trump’s Tariff during Thursday in the second quarter of invitation to make money earnings. While the iPhone manufacturer saw only a “limited influence” from the tariff in the March quarter, Cook said Apple could not predict what it would mean for the next quarter. However, if things remained the same, the company estimates that the tariffs will add only $ 900 million with its costs in Q3.

The news was relief for investors, and one even called “a rather good outcome.” However, investors were still concerned that the next quarter could be held, given the rapid changes in US trade policy in recent weeks.

Cook said that Apple’s investors were supposed to provide some color and that it would only be held if the current global tariff rates, policies and applications did not change the quarter balance and if new tariffs were not added.

He also warned that this assessment should not be used to project the influence of tariffs in future quarters, because there are “unique factors” they benefit from June.

IN Interview with CNBCCook diminished the influence of tariffs, noting that Apple already gets about half of his iPhone for the US from India, and most other products for the US market from Vietnam.

When an investor pressed him to offer more details about a June quarter and beyond, Cook said, “I don’t want to predict the future, because I’m not sure what happens to the tariffs.”

Cook added that in the future he would not want to predict a mixture of production, but noted that he was very engaged with tariff discussions. (That was already clear. Shortly after the meeting with President Trump, Apple’s iPhone devices were spared of changes in trade policy That could send iPhone prices.)
