Apple promised next-gen CarPlay in 2024, so where is it?

We have not yet seen the “next generation of CarPlay” that Apple first announced in 2022 and he continues to say on its web page CarPlay is coming in 2024, as well as MacRumors he remarks. And barring a spectacular surprise, it won’t come today or tomorrow. What does it give?

So far, we’ve only seen changes like CarPlay mapping directions that appear in the instrument cluster in cars from manufacturers like Polestar, Porsche and Lincoln. This is also the case for vehicles such as the 2024 Lincoln Nautiluswhich has the screen real estate to support Apple’s vision for its dashboard-spanning infotainment software. Porsche and Aston Martin have announced their cars will be the first to get the new CarPlay, but both recently refused to give Wired a timeline for its launch.

Apple’s website still says “The first models will arrive in 2024”, which seems…unlikely.

Outside of Apple’s initial statement that many cars would use its big CarPlay update, automakers like General Motors and Rivian have taken a stand against it and Google’s Android Auto. It is not a popular position, especially for GMbut both indicated that it is about having more control over their vehicles.

Despite the lukewarm reception of Apple’s ideas, the company has he continued to speak about their plans for the software. It is not clear in which cars, if any, it will ever appear.
