Facebook Will Introduce AI-Generated “People” With Their Own Profiles to Comment on Your Posts

AI chatbots have become very human in the space of a year, but Facebook wants them even more. If things go as planned, you could eventually see AI “people,” complete with a generated profile picture and bio, commenting on posts and interacting with you.

Your next Facebook friend may be an AI Chatbot

As reported by The Financial TimesFacebook wants to make its apps more interactive and fun in 2025. To achieve this, the company is looking to use generative AI to make unique experiences. Connor Hayes, the VP of Product for Generative AI at Meta (the owner of Facebook), has a pretty unique idea on how to do this:

“We expect that these AIs will actually exist, over time, on our platforms, somewhat in the same way as accounts. They will have bios and profile pictures and will be able to generate and share AI-powered content on the platform … it is here we see everything that happens.”

The vice president did not go into detail about how these accounts will work. It is likely that, at the very least, it will use AI to generate posts and talk to people on Facebook’s direct messaging system. But how about sending a friend request to an AI or maybe getting a comment on your posts?

This development follows with Meta’s previous track record with AI. The media have been all-in on using generative models to create content for people, which we discovered when we have tested Meta AI and found that it beat its competitors in many areas. However, all that forward momentum comes at a price: the company is likely to use all of yours Facebook content to train its AI without knowing.
