If you are sick and tired of having to read the latest news and interesting articles about Google Search and Discover, you will be pleased to know that you may not need it anymore. Instead, you can just listen to a five-minute podcast that distills your food down to its core.
Google Launches AI Podcasts for Daily Listening
As previously reported by 9to5GoogleGoogle Labs’ latest experiment is an AI podcast called Daily Listen. This personalized podcast with two AI hosts will distill the topics of the day you’re interested in into a short podcast.
The idea will be familiar to everyone who has heard it NotebookLM Audio Overview featurewhich creates a podcast from any information source that feeds it. And this is essentially the same idea, but with your Search and Discover habits fueling the podcast.
You will need to accept the daily listening experiment by activating it below Research Labs in the top left corner of the Google app. It’s available in the US starting today on Android and iOS.
Once you’ve opted in, Daily Listen will appear in the carousel below the search bar at the top of the Google app. Once clicked, the podcast will play, with a transcript to help you follow along. You will also find links to stories, allowing you to explore the topics discussed in more depth.
Will we still need real podcasters in the future?
Google’s AI podcasts are surprisingly good. And even if you can’t access the Listen of the Day experience right now, you can get a taste of the technology by trying out NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature.
Which begs the question: Do we still need real podcasters in the future? And by “real,” I mean living, breathing humans.
Now, the technology is impressive, but it is not refined enough to cover different genres. Essentially, all they do at the moment is absorb information and then regurgitate it in podcast form. Which means there is a lack of personality, and zero humor to speak of.
However, Artificial intelligence is improving all the timeAnd if a certain personality and the ability to riff on a subject is introduced at some point in the future, then Joe Rogan and his colleagues may need to watch their backs.
