From super-bright OLED extendable screen TVs, CES 2025 showed impressive new display technology and I would count Hisense’s TriChroma mini-LED TV among the best innovations I’ve seen in the space.
We cover all the latest CES news from the show as it happens. Stay with us for the big stories on everything from 8K TVs and foldable screens to new phones, laptops, smart home gadgets, and the latest in AI.

How is it, the Hisense 116UX is the world’s largest mini-LED TV by any TV producer, putting on a great show when I went to see it at the Las Vegas Convention Center – it even overshadowed the 163-inch micro-LED TV behind me
It was because of the dazzling spectrum of colors that are produced on such a large screen. Indeed, what is so revolutionary about the 116UX mini-LED TV is not its size (although it is the largest mini-LED TV in the show), but rather the new RGB backlight technology in it, which enhances the color spectrum.
It is this new backlight that helps the sector to achieve such a boost in the coverage of the color range, and to power this technology Hisense has added a new Hi-View AI Engine X processor, which it says is faster than the one used in its 2024 range.
Like the rest of Hisense’s 2025 line, the 116UX mini-LED TV uses Google TV like his operating systemwhich means you can access all Google Smart Home features. There is also one ATSC 3.0 tuner so that you can watch digital TV broadcasts of the next generation, making it one of the most advanced sets in its range.
Hisense calls its new backlight technology “RGB Local Dimming Technology” and says that it helps to optimize the quality of the image and sound in the mini-LED TV in combination with the new AI functions on the most powerful processor.
Mini-LED RGB backlights are new in 2025, with concepts using them also being unveiled by TCL and Samsung (Although Samsung calls its version a micro-LED RGB backlight), but Hisense is the only one to announce a real product. The actual mini-LED backlit a grid of blue LEDs to create the light, which then passes through the color filter to create the colors on the screen. This new panel uses blue, red and green LEDs in the backlight, so it creates a lot of color before it hits the pixels.
By creating colors in the original light of the TV, the 116UX mini-LED looks much richer, achieving 97% of the BT.2020 color space according to Hisense. This backlight technology individually dims each color of the mini-LEDs, so there is incredibly strong control over the picture.
The maximum brightness reaches 10,000 nits according to Hisense, and also because it now loses less light to the color filter and thanks to the improved processing power in the TV, it is said to be 10% more energy efficient than other equivalent backlights from the company .
On the wellness front, Hisense also claims that its ‘Local RGB Dimming Technology’ also reduces the intensity of harmful blue light by 40%, making for a much more comfortable look while protecting your eyes and the ability to sleep after movie night
It’s incredible technology to see in person that really gives the Hisense 116UX mini-LED TV an eye-catching boost of color. It is promised to launch later in 2025, although an official price has not been announced. We’ll have it straight on our review bench when we can, though.
