OpenAI is bankrolling Axios’ expansion into four new markets

OpenAI is getting into the local news game.

Axios newsletter-based media organization announced partnership with OpenAI on Wednesday. As part of the three-year deal, the AI ​​giant will fund Axios’ expansion of local newsletters into four new cities: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Kansas City, Missouri; Boulder, Colorado; and Huntsville, Alabama.

While OpenAI has signed content sharing and licensing agreements several publications — the nature and details of these deals have not been disclosed — this is the first time OpenAI has funded an actual newsroom of a media company it has worked with, according to Axios. Other OpenAI media partners include Vox Media, The Atlantic, and the Financial Times, among many others.
