Rivian built battery supplies for his trucks, SUVs and commercial vans before and after the election of Donald Trump, a strategy used to soften the blower of President Tariff, states Bloomberg News.
The company apparently bought an undiscovered number of Litian iron phosphate batteries from the Chinese Gotion company before the election. The batteries were for Rivian’s shipping van, most of which were made for Amazon. After the election (although it is not true when it is not clear) Rivian worked with Samsung SDI “to move a large amount of battery inventory to the US from South Korea,” Bloomberg reports.
Stock supplies should help reduce the price of prices caused by Trump’s automatic tariffs, which apply to components that bring cars to the US on vehicles. Trump changed these tariffs this week, providing some relief compared to his original plan of application of 25% of the imported parts tax; Trump’s revised tariff plan will still probably leading to increasing prices on new cars.
