Telecom giants AT&T and Verizon have assured the public that their networks are secure following a series of cyberattacks attributed to a hacker group linked to China. known as Salt Typhoon.
“We have not found any activity by nation state actors on our networks at this time,” in a statement provided Mondayan AT&T spokesperson told multiple outlets.
The Dallas company also noted that, while Salt Typhoon’s operations are still being investigated, it has found “relatively few cases” where an individual’s information has been compromised. AT&T is working closely with authorities and reaching out to affected individuals.

This is the first time that AT&T and Verizon have publicly acknowledged being affected by Salt Typhoon. For most customers, there is little reason to worry. Verizon told TechCrunch that the hacker group behind the breach had targeted “a small number of high-profile customers in government”. However, the full scope of the breach remains unclear.
On Friday, the The White House confirmed that AT&T and Verizon were among nine companies breached by the hacking group, although US officials declined to name the ninth company affected. However, Anne Neuberger, the deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technologies, told reporters that the unnamed company had access to more than 100,000 routers.
