The Camera app is probably one of the most used iPhone apps for most of us, and rumor has it that this key piece of software is going to get a makeover with the roll out of iOS 19 and the iPhone 17 later this year.
According to Front Page Tech (via MacRumors), the interface of the Camera app will become more fluid, seamlessly adapting its layout as different functions and options (such as panoramic photos or slow-motion videos) are accessed.
Most of the screen is still taken with the viewfinder (what you actually take a picture of), but the options for image and video resolution will be easier to access, with drop-down panels appearing at the top of the display. .
The fluidity of the interface and the translucent panels are, as Front Page Tech points out, very reminiscent of the visionOS software that runs on the Apple Vision Pro. The thought is that the design revamp could also apply to the rest of iOS 19.
You can remember it here it was a chat around iOS 18 potentially getting a redesign inspired by last year’s visionOS. It didn’t happen, but it seems Apple is still considering making its iPhone software more like its Vision Pro software.
Nothing is certain yet – even tipster Jon Prosser, in the Front Page Tech video you can see above, is not sure what will happen – but we do know that Apple is already working on iOS 19 updates ready for their iPhones.
We should get our first look at iOS 19 sometime in June, when Apple holds its annual WWDC (World Conference of Developers). A beta program will likely follow soon after, with a full release in September to coincide with the iPhone 17 range.
There haven’t been many rumors or leaks around iOS 19 so far, although we’ve heard that any iPhone with iOS 18 will be able to run iOS 19 too. We will most likely see a lot of additional Apple Intelligence updates as well.
