Traveling is exciting, but often brings its fair share of challenges and inconveniences. To enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free travel experience, here are my essential gadgets, which you can easily fit in your luggage.
Power Bank
One of the most critical items in my travel kit is a reliable power bank. A dead phone or tablet while navigating an unfamiliar city is the last thing you need.
A power bank with a capacity of at least 10,000 mAh is ideal. It can charge a standard smartphone two to three times before needing a recharge. Some models come with fast charging and multiple ports, so I can power up my phone, headphones, and other electronics.
If you have a weight limit on your trip, a light power bank like Nitecore NB10000 is a popular choice. You’ll also want to skip buying power banks with wireless charging features. Not only are they slow to charge your device, but the wireless aspect also loses more charge than your typical wired connection. Of course, there is nothing wrong with having one. Just don’t use the wireless charging feature when traveling.
Noise canceling headphones or earphones
Traveling often means dealing with noisy airports, crowded planes or busy streets. A good pair of noise canceling headphones or earphones uses ANC (active noise cancellation) technology. to create a bubble of calm amidst the noisy environment.
I use them not only to enjoy music or podcasts, but also to reduce stress. Noise cancellation helps me focus during work or sleep better on a flight. Whether you’re a frequent flyer or just need some quiet time, these are worth every penny.
Personally, I prefer to use headphones because they are small, light and versatile. However, there are cases where a noise canceling headphone is the best option. For example, you may find it more comfortable, like a bigger sound stage, or you want peace of mind that you won’t lose it if you decide to sleep. They’re also much more noticeable—a zero-effort way to signal that you’re not in the mood for conversation, which can be invaluable when you’re feeling drained at the moment.
Baggage tracker (e.g. Apple AirTag)
Few things are as stressful as losing your luggage. Fortunately, technology has made it easier to locate misplaced bags. Placing a tracker in your luggage or bag will save you during layovers when the risk of misplaced luggage increases. Aside from security, a luggage tracker will also give you peace of mind when checking your luggage, making your trip less stressful.
USB flash drive or external SSD
Digital files often take up more space than we expect, especially when you’re traveling for work or capturing memories through photos. I bring a USB flash drive or an external SSD to store all the photos and videos I take, plus a small library of content downloaded online, just in case the accommodation has a slow internet connection.
I often prefer to take an external SSD over a USB flash drive for its faster transfer speed and larger storage capacity. However, a USB flash drive can also be useful when you don’t need a backup and just want to store documents and photos.
Digital scale
Airlines have strict baggage weight limits; above them can mean high fees. A portable digital scale can help you avoid surprises at the airport.
Even the cheapest scales are accurate enough to provide useful readings. Before you go, you can weigh your luggage to make sure it weighs the airline’s limit and prevent any hassle. Also, a small scale will be a lifesaver when packing extra souvenirs when you return home.
GaN Charger With USB-C Cable 2m
Charging multiple devices efficiently is key while traveling. A GaN (gallon nitride) charger. it was a game changer for me. These chargers are compact yet powerful, offering fast charging for phones, tablets and even laptops.
Pair with a 2-meter USB-C cable for added flexibility, especially in hotel rooms where outlets are often inconveniently placed. With this setup, I can charge multiple devices overnight and start the day stress-free. This Anker Nano GaN Charger it is manageable and light, while the largest Anker 737 GaN charger it has many charging ports.
Travel adapters
International travel requires you to deal with different types of plugs. A travel adapter ensures that you can charge your devices no matter where you are. Some of the best models also include USB ports, which allow you to power several gadgets at once.
I personally prefer to take a simple travel adapter because it is small and light, and I only need it to connect my GaN charger. Of course, if you take a lot of technology with you during your travels, it may be best if you get a more robust travel adapter with USB ports and an extension cord.
Portable electric fan
Whether you’re exploring a tropical destination or standing in a long line, a portable electric fan can keep you comfortable. It is especially useful during summer trips or in stuffy environments like crowded trains.
These fans are lightweight, rechargeable, and often come with adjustable speeds. It’s a simple gadget, but it makes a world of difference when you’re trying to stay cool.
Electric Razor
Maintaining a grooming routine while traveling can be challenging, but an electric shaver simplifies things. A compact, travel-friendly model fits easily in my bag and eliminates the need for shaving cream or water.
Look for a rechargeable shaver with a long battery life. It’s convenient, saves time and helps you stay presentable throughout your trip. For me, this is a handy addition to any packing list.
Traveling doesn’t have to be stressful. With these gadgets in my bag, I feel more prepared for whatever the trip throws at me. Whether it’s charging, organizing, or comfort, these tools make the difference. Try them, and you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them!
