Google Clarifies Googlebot-News Crawler Documentation

Google updated its Google News Crawler documentation to correct the error that implied that Publisher Crawler Preferences referred to Googlebot-NEWS influenced News Card at Google Search.

Google News card

The Google News category card is a search that is displayed near the top of the search results (Serps). The news filter shows the results of the news publisher search results. The contents displayed on the news card mainly comes from web locations that meet the terms to display in Google News and have to meet Google’s news content news.

What has changed:

Google’s Changelog noted that a user agent description mistakenly said the publisher settings had affected what was shown on the Google News tab.

They explained:

“The description of the way the creep preferences have been addressed to Googlebot-News has wrongly stated that it will affect the news card on Google, which is not the case.”

The entire section mentioning the News Card in Google Search has been removed from this sentence:

“Creep preferences addressed to Googlebot-NEWS user agents affects all Google News surfaces (for example, news card at Google Search and Google News App).”

Corrected version is now:

“Creep preferences addressed to Googlebot-NEWS user agents affect Google News product, including News.google.com and Google News.”
